Must Visit Wineries Close To The Gold Coast
Nature has gifted Australia with some of the best wine making conditions available. With some of the country’s top-ranked wineries not too far from the Gold Coast, there is plenty to discover off the coast. Get away from the tourists, head to the hinterland, and discover some great tasting wines (you’ll also find plenty of amazing food!).
Here are three of our favourites.
Witches Falls Winery
Wild Ferment, Prophecy, Eighth Day Cider – you’ll find them at Witches Falls Winery on Tamborine Mountains. Opening in 2004, Witches Falls is one of the largest wine producers in Queensland with all products made on-site. Jon Heslop leads and experienced team with knowledge from numerous Australian wine regions as well as Burgundy, the Napa Valley and Marlborough in New Zealand. With a respect for minimal intervention, Witches Falls grapes are grown on the Granite Belt, a cool climate on a high altitude, perfectly suited to growing grapes.
A visit to Witches Falls is not complete without a tasting where you’ll experience some very different wines, including the Wild Fermentation range. Witches Falls is one of the top wineries in Australia and a stop here will quickly show you why.
O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards
Established in 1998 and set amongst the hills of the hinterland, surrounded by cattle properties and idyllic country homes, Canungra Valley Vineyards produced some highly recognised wines including Shiraz, Chambourcin and Verdelho. Family owned and multi award winning, the vineyard features the historic ‘Kiloween’ homestead, an outdoor Wine Cellar and the Mountview Alpacca Farm.
Enjoy tastings of the Canungra Valley Vineyard wines, and choose to stop for a picnic lunch by the creek or a stone baked pizza at the homestead. Don’t forget to grab your favourite wines for when you get home and pop by to say hello to the alpacas – they are very friendly!
Cedar Creek Estate Winery
As you drive up the tree-lined driveway, you’ll know you’re in for a treat at Cedar Creek Estate Winery. One of the most charming wineries in the hinterland, there is a large range of wines available for tasting that will suit almost everyone. Cedar Creek Estate is also home to the Glow Worm Caves, where you can join a cave tour and see the glow worms up close.
Enjoy a lunch in the restaurant, and taste the range of wines, liqueurs and ports from Cedar Creek Estate Winery, as well as a small range of liqueurs from the Queensland Wine Centre.
